Pervert Power Rangers

Finally! The Summer 2020 anime season is here. We’ve been through so much, it’s been so hard, it’s been so difficult up to this point, but we can now enjoy some quality anime entertainment. Or so I thought. When I was thinking about this season, I was thinking about the second season of Re:Zero, the third season of Oregairu, the second season of Fire Force. I was not thinking about a bunch of perverted power rangers using some CASIO wrist watches to defeat big boobed praying mantis aliens. But, here we are. These are my first impressions of Dokyuu Hentai HxEros.

I think of myself as an anime fan. As an otaku. Perhaps, even a weeb on some occasions. However, these sort of anime are not my cup of tea and I’m being very polite here. To be clear. I liked Prison School. I liked the first season of Highschool DxD. I don’t mind ecchi, I don’t mind pervy comedy, I don’t mind fan-service. However, we can all agree that simply having fan-service does not make an anime good. Now, since these are simply my first impressions of Dokyuu Hentai HxEros, I don’t know how this series will progress but I would be surprised if it turns out to be any good.

The plot is more of an excuse than an actual story. It is clear that the person that created this was more interested in creating scenarios for the fan-service, which is fine. Not all anime need to be nominated for an award. However, the way I see it, having a good story, even an ecchi one, helps keep the audience interested throughout the series. If the purpose of the story is simply the fan-service, then people might lose interest after a certain point. My wife made a very good observation. It’s like the plot of a hentai but without the sex scenes. So, pretty pointless.

I know that there are people out there that will enjoy this sort of thing. So, in the interest of fairness, we should judge Dokyuu Hentai HxEros accordingly. It’s supposed to be an ecchi, action slash comedy. I’m sorry, but the action part was pretty meh, the comedy part was meh (the reason I laughed was not because of its effective use of comedy, but because of how cringe-inducing and predictable it was), the ecchi part was fine. That was fine. As always, anime has a way to express the boob physics in such glorious ways. Probably, that’s where all the animation budget went.

I also noticed that the main character, Enjou Retto, is voiced by Matsuoka Yoshitsugu, who also portrays Kirito-kun from SAO and Souma-kun from Shokugeki no Souma. Also, the opening song is done by the BURNOUT SYNDROMES, who did OPs for Haikyuu and Dr. Stone. That was surprising.

The way I see it, Dokyuu Hentai HxEros is ok, if what you’re after is burning some brain cells and enjoying raunchy hand-holding action, but that’s about it. As always, though, I am perfectly fine with being wrong, so on the off chance that this anime turns out amazing, then I’ll be the first to admit it.

One last thought. If someone is a hentai in this anime, then that someone is the girl, Hoshino Kirara. Who gets so hot and bothered by hand-holding? What’s wrong with her? She literally made a libido-eating alien explode. What’s gonna happen when they kiss?

HxEROS. H for ecchi (short for hentai), Eros as in love. H+EROS= HEROS. The hentai heros that will save the world. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
