Comment: Beastars<span class="wtr-time-wrap block after-title"><span class="wtr-time-number">1</span> min read</span>

Although Beastars aired on five different Japanese stations (or so), it hasn’t travelled across the Pacific Ocean just yet. Once again, I’ll side-track you guys just a bit… The style of the drawing -not just the animation- can be a make-or-break deal for me, when it comes down to choosing which anime I want to watch next. And although Beastars seems like it was given attention even to the slightest detail, I’m still torn as to whether the characters being animals with certain human elements, reactions and posture will be a bummer for me. Some similarities with other pop culture productions will be old news in about a second or two, so I won’t even bother…

I can’t get over this anime’s music. The OP is different than what we’re used to, both in how it sounds and in what we get to see. The ED is on a different league. And the soundtrack, composed from the person who composed and arranged “God knows…” from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya? My anticipation can only grow.

Oh, the opening… funky, jazzy, international and exotic. And the twist… The jivey slash rock & roll-y part accompanied by the visuals. The saxophone just hitting the right spot by hitting the right notes… If I didn’t know it was an anime’s OP, I wouldn’t have guessed that the visuals are even marginally related to Japanese popular culture. I would have thought that it was the music video of an already established artist. And the stop motion / 3D thing only made sense; it passed unnoticed under my weird animation radar. After watching the opening theme, I was stunned. (Obviously in a good way, didn’t you get it by now?)

The ending, following the same mentality. Akatsuki [Red moon]. Drums & vocals and shadow play in front of a crimson background, screaming quality.

I can’t wait.
