Publisher Hakusensha announced on Thursday that Berserk manga creator, Kentarou Miura, passed away on May 6 due to acute aortic dissection.

The beloved mangaka was 54.

His family held a private service.

Miura was born on July 11, 1966 in Chiba prefecture.

He made his professional manga debut with the Futatabi… [ENG: Once More…] story in Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine in 1985.

Miura published the one-shot version of the Berserk manga in Hakusensha’s Monthly Comicomi magazine in 1988.

The full Berserk manga series was launched in Hakusensha’s Monthly Animal House magazine in 1989.

It has over 40 million copies in circulation.

The manga has been adapted into two anime series (1997 & 2016) and a movie trilogy.

Berserk is one of the ‘big’ titles in manga.

Through his work Miura captured our imagination, garnered our respect and inspired future mangaka.

His passing is a great loss.
